Concepts
Gender, equity, equality, social inclusion, empowerment, human rights, participatory approach, gender mainstreaming: these are words regularly used in the context of the work of the government and civil society in Tuvalu. Those concepts, in English language, are often difficult to translate in Tuvaluan language and can be confusing when trying to apply those in our Tuvaluan situation. When they are not properly translated and understood, they generate frustrations and even conflicts because they are seen as ideas transporting values that go against our culture. Thus, the importance to have a common understanding and using standardised definitions.
This folder contains:
- a lexicon in English - and soon in Tuvaluan language - with the definition of current concepts used related to gender equality, disability, youth and human rights;
- other documents providing information on the different concepts used.
